Welcome to my blog!

Hello, I'm Kerry Wuthrich and I'll be leaving the USA for the first time and traveling to Kenya, Africa for a short term Mission Trip from September 23rd to October 4th, 2010! Our team of 9 will be serving at HOREC (Hope for Orphans Rescue Center) to help extend Christ's love and do whatever we can to help these children who have been orphaned by AIDS. I'm very excited and ready to do my part. As communication connections allow, I'll be posting updates throughout this journey in hopes to share what is sure to be the experience of a lifetime. A big THANK YOU you for all of your support, your prayers, and your interest in these little ones. It truly 'takes a village' as they say! I'm so glad you are all part of mine! :O)

Each day has a song.

When we were on our way from the airport to The Classic Guest House in Nairobi we sang "How Great Thou Art." We had joined this day from our homes to a new experience. It was a celebration of God's greatness - His arms extending us thousands and thousands of miles, across oceans, deserts, mountains, icy lands, vast seas - safely, without delay, with no loss of our supplies and goods, providing in abundance for our bodies, food, water, rest. To place us nearer to the orphans, nearer to Him. How Great Thou Art!
We slept, we showered, we ate delicious, lovingly prepared food. We departed for a meeting with Jennifer, Johnny, and 5 month old Jonathan. Jennifer is the missionary on the ground in Kenya. She has lived here for 4 years in our conduit to HOREC, Spring Valley, and Into Abba's Arms. She arranges the practical matters of our stay - lodging, transportation, communication, assistance in guiding us to fair markets, cautious spending, and serves as a host to us as well.
We checked into the Sportsview Hotel and then met with Jennifer and her family. After a meeting over a delicious chai tea and scones, we shopped for food for tomorrow's BBQ at HOREC and purchased provisions for the team for a few days.
We then returned to the Sportsview Hotel to store the food in their refrigerator, prepare a quick lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, ham & cheese sandwiches and we were quickly off to HOREC. We only had time now for a visit of 1-2 hours depending on traffic - this means depending on other vehicles on the roads, pedestrians outnumbering the seemingly endless cars, and animals in our path not caring for our urgent desires to get to the children.
We arrived, the Rescue Center gates were opened - like proverbial Heaven's Gates and we heard the Angels singing, dancing, rejoicing at our arrival. They introduced themselves one by one after a concert of song and dance. With their introductions the recited Bible verses - God's comforting messages. Their song, "Make a Home in my Heart," was like a lullaby, soothing my soul, releasing my tears. God did not bring me to these children - He brought them to me. They are today's song. I want to listen to their song forever.
God bless them - God bless us all.

Welcome to Kenya!

What an amazing adventure already! We flew for about 17 hours yesterday from Denver to Minnesota, to Amsterdam, then into Narobi in Kenya! Time does fly! we crossed 11 timezones. During our domestic flight we met Alice, who served with Global Hope in Romania a few years ago. Small world! Then abord our final flight I got to know two gracious native Kenyan women. They were warm and friendly. Carolyne has been in the states for 4 years. Finally, a visit home for her also brought her into my life. She has offered to teach me Kiswalli on-line when we're both back in in the USA. she knows I will love it here so much that I'll want to return so she will help me communicate better for next time. I met Jackline who works with the UN serving East and Southern Africa through a program at Columbia University. She is part of an initiative to "Mobalize the Sciences and Public Policy to Build a Prosperous Sustainable Future" I have much to learn from these two incredible women!
We were greeted at the airport by Victoria holding a sign to welcome us. once Visa's were purchased & bags loaded, Thomas and Martin brought us to a lovely Guest House for our first night's stay and dinner! A great night's sleep and I'm ready for day 1 in this beautiful new land to see what God has in store for us today!
